You'll install, inspect, maintain and repair the mechanical equipment that keeps water and wastewater systems running safely and reliably.
This includes working on pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, pipelines and chemical dosing equipment, as well as finding faults, replacing worn parts and helping commission new infrastructure.
Every day is different. You might carry out planned maintenance, respond to equipment breakdowns, help shut down systems safely for repairs or work with engineers and operators to solve complex mechanical problems.
In some workplaces, you'll also be part of an on-call roster to respond to urgent faults outside normal working hours.
You'll work closely with operators, electricians, engineers and contractors to make sure equipment is safe, reliable and ready when communities need it.
If you enjoy practical work, solving problems and seeing the results of your efforts, this career offers plenty of variety and opportunities to continue learning throughout your career.
