From installation of water meters, to plumbing and drainage, and connecting or disconnecting water supply to buildings - there are many critical processes in the water industry can only be completed by a licensed plumber. 

 

Ideal for people who are mechanically minded, safety conscious, and enjoy variety in daily tasks, including working on domestic, commercial, and municipal water and wastewater systems.

 

Working as a plumber in the water industry offers hands-on technical skills, a deep understanding of water and wastewater systems, opportunities to contribute to public health and environmental protection, career stability, and pathways into specialist or supervisory roles within utilities and infrastructure projects.

### DAY TO DAY WORK

- Install, repair, and maintain water and sewer systems.
- Inspect and test pipes, meters, valves, and treatment connections. 
- Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with standards.
- Respond to blockages, leaks, service calls and emergencies.
- Record work completed and report issues.
- Liaise with customers, councils, and operational teams.
- Provide technical advice and ensure safe work practices.

### Qualifications for this role

The following qualifications can be used to become a Plumber: 

- Certificate III in Plumbing (AQF Level 3)
- Licensed Plumber under state/territory authorities;
- Ongoing WHS, confined space, and backflow prevention training.
