We have an exciting opportunity for you to contribute to the management of the jewel of the outback, Lake Moondarra.
You’ll manage over 11,000 hectares of land with a thriving ecosystem of flora and fauna, and help to deliver land, parks, and gardens services for the community and visitors of Mount Isa.
About the Role
The Land, Parks and Gardens Lead manages the day-to-day and strategic activities at the R48 Reserve (Lake Moondarra), including the development of workplans to deliver on our land management and environmental obligations, as well as the coordination of services to maintain parks, gardens and public amenities that are enjoyed by thousands of community members and visitors to our region.
You will lead a team of three field-based team members. On a daily basis, you will help to:
- Coordinate maintenance and services for public parks, gardens and amenities across seven public spaces at Lake Moondarra;
- Develop an annual workplan and strategic plan to ensure you deliver environmental initiatives in accordance with our Land Management Plan;
- Support the local community with education and awareness initiatives, including by facilitating tours, events and community functions at Lake Moondarra;
- Support the long-term asset management of infrastructure and amenities to ensure we can deliver exceptional services for years to come; and
- Represent the Mount Isa Water Board in community and public forums to help us to continually improve our services.
What You Can Expect?
This role is ideally suited for candidates who are comfortable with a mix of field-based and desk-based duties. Your day could range from supporting and supervising your team members to deliver operational and maintenance tasks in the field, to preparing long-term maintenance plans and coordinating events and tours for local community groups.
We are looking for a candidate who has previous experience as a ranger, or who has extensive experience in land management and environmental planning who is looking to take their career to the next level and enjoy more time outdoors.
Selection Criteria
We are open to hearing from candidates who have a broad range of skills and experiences who can help contribute to making Mount Isa a great place to live and visit. We are ideally searching for a candidate with:
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a similar land management, parks and gardens, or related role.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding occupation in an outdoor setting (mandatory), and previous experience working in a physical demanding position.
- Experience in field management of work team/s engaged in land management activities with experience in managing work plans effectively to deliver required outcomes within required timeframes.
- Experience in managing operational activities within defined budgets.
- Experience in parks, garden and reserve type duties and maintenance (including but not limited to maintaining playgrounds, weed management, mowing, machinery operations and maintenance).
- A robust understanding of occupational health, safety, risk management practice, and environmental principles and demonstrated history in safety and environmental protection performance, including leading and supervising teams.

Recruitment Process
The successful applicant will be required to return a satisfactory National Police Check and will be required to undergo a pre-appointment medical and job-task evaluation (JTE) in connection with the inherent physical requirements for this role.
The successful applicant will require full Australian Working Rights and must be living in Mount Isa or willing to relocate prior to commencement of the role.
