The role
We're excited to be growing and are looking to add a Senior Environment and Approvals Advisor to our team.
Reporting to the Team Leader Environment Approvals and working in a team of advisors, this role provides environmental assessment and risk management, stakeholder engagement and regulatory approval support and advice for South East Water’s large and complex capital projects. This role will see you working with contractors and South East Water planners and project managers to identify, mitigate and monitor environmental risks, ensure compliance with various legislative requirements and ensure approvals and permits are identified and obtained within project timelines and budgets.
The Senior Environment and Approvals Advisor provides specialist advice in complex environmental management practices throughout project planning and delivery which includes identifying hazards, assessing risks, implementing appropriate controls and checking controls. The role will liaise with stakeholders to ensure relevant statutory approvals are obtained and South East Water's capital works’ projects are compliant with the appropriate authorities and legislation. This role will work closely with contractors and consultants to minimise environmental impacts due to the capital works program.
Who are you?
Our ideal candidate has been working in a similar role, ideally within the water industry, for 7+ years and holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, statutory planning, ecology or other relevant degree.
Experience, skills and/or knowledge in the following areas will set you up for success in this role:
- Specialist knowledge and experience in statutory planning, ecology or other related discipline related to construction environmental management - highly regarded.
- Experience with construction auditing and monitoring to ensure that all major projects are safeguarded from legislative breaches.
- Sound understanding of environmental legislation and approvals requirements applicable to construction projects, with the ability to communicate these requirements across all business levels as well as govern compliance during delivery.
- A detailed understanding of risk frameworks and risk assessment and mitigation processes.
- Ability to mediate and resolve conflict, and to manage competing priorities and expectations in a construction environment.
- Promotion of “cradle to grave” environmental management approach to ensure that risks are identified early, efficiencies are gained, and management plans are properly implemented.
- Well-developed project management skills with an ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence, discuss technical information, write reports and prepare a range of communications for key stakeholders.
- Well-developed interpersonal, relationship building and customer service skills.
- Experience working with local Government and other authorities in the South East Water’s operating area - desirable.
- Experience with GIS - desirable.
