Job Description

AECOM’s Water Planning Team in Sydney is looking for an engaging and collaborative Team Lead to provide leadership, market engagement and to assist in growing our team in Sydney, with collaboration from our ANZ and global teams.

Working as part of the Australia & New Zealand Water Planning team as an integral member of the business line Leadership, you will have accountability for AECOM’s strategic, financial and client outcomes for the business in the Sydney and NSW/ACT region.

Your strong relationships with clients in the Water Sector will enable you to identify, lead and support the continued growth of our business, bringing new business and leveraging opportunities across business units, service lines and regions.

What will a day in this role look like:

  • Provide technical direction, mentor and train our junior members within the team.
  • Business development including client engagement, proposal preparation and bid management.
  • Proactive delivery of high-quality and timely valued water network planning solutions that are focused on flexibility, sustainability, optimisation, integration, whole-of-lifecycle cost and acceptable risk.
  • Creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges, determining technical objectives and requirements, and developing standards and guides for technical activities and applications.
  • Collaborating with local, regional, and global AECOM colleagues as part of project delivery including disciplines such as design, environment, geotechnical, digital engineering, community consultation, advisory, asset and information management.


What are we looking for from you?

As a Team Lead / Principal Water Planner, you will be engaged, and excited by project delivery and the successful integration of varied specialist and multi-disciplinary stakeholders.

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.  

Ideally, you will have:

  • In depth network planning experience that demonstrates the development and evaluation of options and proficient in hydraulic network modelling of water and/or wastewater systems.
  • Well informed on current and potential future policy, practice, trends, technology, and information affecting water planning, including drivers, regulation, framework and guidelines.
  • Appreciation of clients within the water and other water-related markets such as land development, private water utilities, local and state government as in major urban water utilities, regional authorities etc.
  • Champion new ideas, encouraging initiative and promoting innovative techniques or actions.
