About the Role 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established thriving business with a strong pipeline of projects. Jacobs has secured multiple major infrastructure projects and multi-year contracts with leading public and private clients.   

The Associate Mechanical Engineer will provide consultancy and engineering services within the Water market across Australia and New Zealand. This role involves leading the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects and managing moderately complex projects. Additional responsibilities include mentoring junior staff and fostering strong client relationships to support the growth of our water operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver high-quality mechanical engineering designs and consultancy services independently.

Drive business development, identify new opportunities, and support successful project bids.

Prepare and submit bids, and assist section leaders and project managers in delivering financially successful projects.

Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to key clients in both the public and private sectors.

Enhance Jacobs’ capabilities and reputation in South East Asia, New Zealand, and Australia by representing the company at key industry events.

Collaborate with the client management team to identify emerging opportunities.

Manage projects to ensure they are delivered on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction.

Ensure compliance with Jacobs’ QA procedures, including the deliverables review process.

Mentor junior staff and facilitate their technical development to meet market needs.

Engage with high-performing team members to promote knowledge sharing and coaching.

Work collaboratively with team members to achieve the goals and targets of the team, section, and business unit.

Support growth through the adoption of emerging technologies, including digital solutions.

Promote a safety culture within the organization and with clients.

Attend client meetings to understand and maintain strong client relationships.

Lead team meetings and ensure tasks are clearly understood before starting.

Regularly check in with the Team/Section Lead to ensure alignment with project goals.

Monitor time and workload to keep the Team/Section Lead informed of any upcoming capacity issues.

Balance the scope of deliverables with time allocation to meet project deadlines.

Support the business unit in thriving globally by encouraging cross-geography relationships and maximizing the benefits of global delivery. 

Here's what you'll need

The successful candidate will have the following: 

  • Strong technical knowledge and proven experience indesign of mechanical assets. 
  • Strong technical knowledge and proven experience indesign of pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment plants, and/or desalination plants. 
  • Ability to manage multi-discipline design projects and conduct project reporting. 
  • Understanding of business drivers and commercial responsibilities. 
  • Extensive experiencein calculations and design relating to water pumps selection, sludge pumping, chemical dosing, tank sizing, compressed air, etc. 
  • Experience in designing for hydraulic transients and pipe stress analysis would be beneficial. 
  • Relevant engineering degree andrelevant industry chartership or accreditation. 
  • Sound market knowledge,the ability to build strongclient relationships, andtheacumentoidentify, bid, win, and deliver watersectorprojects. 
  • Ability and willingness to guide and mentorjunior stafffor their growth and benefit to our team. 
  • Inclusive mindset and ability to collaborate across geographies as part of diverse teams. 
  • Strong communicator across the various platforms which make for a truly flexible workplace. 
  • Open-minded and willing to adapt with change and transformation.

About the Team 

The Jacobs water business has water infrastructure and water resources capability in every major city around Australia working across a multitude of markets such as Utilities, Government, Transport, Resources, and Energy Transitioning to name a few.   

Our team is currently working on projects that have a lasting enduring positive impact on our communities such as advisory services for new water sources for agriculture, flood modelling and engineering services to enable greater connectivity, innovativespace savingwastewater sludge treatmentprojects, and major desalination plants in response to our drying climate.
