About the role: 
At Unitywater, data is at the heart of how we create value for our people, customers, and communities. As our Data Governance Specialist, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping a data-driven culture by leading the design, implementation, and evolution of contemporary data governance frameworks. You’ll partner across the business to embed best practice in data quality, ownership, and stewardship, ensuring data is trusted, accessible, and delivers real impact.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and embed frameworks: Design, implement, and evolve Unitywater’s Data Governance Framework.
  • Shape the strategy: Provide expert advice on data governance, policy, and application.
  • Champion data quality: Define and monitor standards, KPIs, and dashboards to improve trust.
  • Strengthen data security & privacy: Support compliance through classification, ownership, and protection protocols.
  • Enable collaboration: Drive clear processes for data sharing, access, and usability across the business.
  • Support the culture: Mentor stakeholders, guide Data Stewards, and grow communities of practice.
  • Stay future-focused: Keep ahead of industry trends, ensuring Unitywater applies contemporary governance practices.
  
  
About you:

  • Relevant qualifications and/or strong experience in data governance or related fields.
  • Knowledge of frameworks like DAMA DMBOK, COBIT, ISO27001, GDPR or similar.
  • Strong understanding of compliance requirements and emerging data governance trends.
  • Ability to influence, collaborate and build trusted relationships at all levels.
  • Skills in data governance tools (Microsoft Purview experience an advantage).
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the confidence to lead positive change.
Your value-add:
  • Design, implement and champion Unitywater’s Data Governance Framework.
  • Set and embed data quality standards, metrics, and reporting dashboards.
  • Partner across the business to ensure compliance, security, and accessibility of data.
  • Guide and mentor data stewards, building capability and awareness across the organisation.
  • Stay ahead of trends and bring fresh, innovative practices to our data governance.
