Primary objective

Lead and integrate a multi-disciplinary team of water resource programs, projects, plans, data management, science communication and engagement to optimise outcomes to deliver the Northern Territory Government, the Department and the Divisions strategic objectives and priorities.

Key duties and responsibilities

1.       Provide high level strategic advice, coordination and support to the Executive Director, ensuring alignment with   Government, Department and the Divisions strategic objectives.

2.      Drive, develop and coordinate the delivery of strategic projects, water allocation plans and water management       activities that promote collaboration, improve water resource understanding.

3.      Lead and deliver the division’s engagement and science communication programs to build productive stakeholder     relationships and enhance community awareness of the Territory’s water resource management.

4.     Provide critical evidence-based analysis and strategic advice to the Department and Minister on water resource    management activities.

5.      Develop and manage effective governance arrangements, data management, processes and procedures to improve business operations and data accessibility that addresses stakeholder needs.

Selection criteria

Essential

1.      Exceptional strategic, research and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement and find effective solutions to ensure organisational and water resource objectives are met.

2.     Experience in water resources management within a range of complex hydrological and eco-hydrological domains.

3.      Strong negotiation and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong and effective networks with a diverse range of stakeholders to achieve common organisational goals and influence outcomes.

4.     High level report writing skills with the ability to accurately analyse and clearly communicate complex issues into  concise documents for a range of diverse audiences.

5.     Strong project management skills with the proven ability to manage multiple projects within budget and timeframes. Proven experience developing and reviewing governance arrangements, processes and procedures to address administrative and technical issues.

6.     Ability to work under pressure with changing priorities and stringent deadlines.

Desirable

1.      Degree in natural resource management, or similar relevant Tertiary qualification relevant to the key duties and responsibilities.

2.     Substantial knowledge and understanding of contemporary water resource management and or water regulation in the Northern Territory or equivalent.
