Shape the future of water services in Banana Shire.
Banana Shire Council is seeking an experienced Principal Water Services Engineer to provide senior technical leadership in water and sewerage engineering. This role ensures safe, compliant, and cost-effective service delivery aligned with Council’s strategic objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering activities for water supply and sewerage reticulation networks, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain network planning reports and hydraulic models to support infrastructure planning.
  • Act as the first point of escalation for technical enquiries and operational incidents.
  • Oversee programs for leak detection, infiltration reduction, asset verification, and condition assessment.
  • Review development applications and provide technical advice and conditioned approvals.
  • Manage projects and contracts, including preparing specifications and overseeing works.
  • Monitor budgets and contribute to cost-effective delivery of operational and capital works.
  • Ensure compliance with Council’s Drinking Water Quality Management Plan and relevant legislation.
  • Mentor and lead the Reticulation Team, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.

About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil or Water Engineering.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of water supply and wastewater systems in a local government context.
  • Strong skills in hydraulic network modelling, technical writing, and engineering calculations.
  • Experience in contract management, procurement, and budget monitoring.
  • Leadership and mentoring capabilities with excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, GeoSCADA/ClearSCADA, and network modelling software.
  • Current C Class manual driver’s licence and Construction White Card.

Desirable:

  • Significant post-graduate experience in a similar role.
  • Local government experience.
