About the Role
In this 18 month fixed term roles as the Stormwater & Waterways Project Coordinator at Melbourne Water, you will play a key role in supporting the health of rivers, estuaries, and catchments across the Port Phillip and Westernport region. This position provides technical and project coordination across a diverse range of stormwater, water quality, and waterway planning initiatives that directly contribute to delivering the Healthy Waterways Strategy.
Working within the Waterways & Catchments Team, you will coordinate investigations, support monitoring programs, and work closely with internal specialists, external consultants, and government stakeholders. You’ll translate scientific insights into clear, practical advice, helping inform strategic decisions that protect and enhance our waterways.
You’ll thrive in a collaborative
environment, be comfortable juggling multiple projects, and bring strong
communication skills to engage a range of stakeholders.
•
Coordinate
investigations relating to urban stormwater and waterways, focusing on the
impacts and opportunities of delivering the Healthy Waterways Strategy
performance objectives and targets.
•
Facilitate
collaboration between work programs in Strategic Waterway Planning and
Stormwater & Environmental Water groups, within the Waterways &
Catchments Team, to generate shared outcomes and efficiencies.
•
Provide
expertise and technical support to a range of catchment and waterway strategic
programs in the Port Phillip and Westernport region.

About you:
•
Proven
experience in stormwater and waterway science, such as water quality,
hydrology, or aquatic ecology.
•
Strong
understanding of best practice measures for urban stormwater and waterway
management, including knowledge of risks to aquatic ecosystems.
•
Sound
knowledge of relevant Victorian policies, guidelines and standards related to
stormwater, water quality assessment, and waterway management.
•
Demonstrated
capability in stormwater, water quality and pollution investigations.
•
Experience
with hydrology and water quality modelling (highly desirable).
This role is ideal for someone with a strong grounding in stormwater or waterway science, experience
managing technical projects, and a passion for evidence‑based environmental outcomes.
