Gympie Regional Council is seeking a motivated and capable Specialist Water Industry Operations team member to help operate and maintain our region’s water, wastewater and recycled water schemes.
This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will be directly involved in protecting public health, supporting environmental compliance, and ensuring reliable water and sewerage services for our growing community.
💰 Remuneration & Benefits
Base Salary:
$73,743 – $77,196 per annum (depending on skills, qualifications & experience)
Superannuation:
Up to 14% employer contribution, increasing under the Certified Agreement to:
15% from July 2026
16% from July 2027
Additional Earnings:
This role participates in a rotating 1 in 4 on-call roster, attracting additional income through:
On-call allowance
Overtime rates for call-outs
Additional annual leave day for public holidays spent on-call
These provisions are outlined in the Gympie Regional Council Certified Agreement 2025.

🔧 About the Role
As a Specialist Water Industry Operations team member, you will:
Operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment plants
Monitor and adjust process control systems
Conduct sampling, testing and data interpretation
Monitor SCADA, telemetry and PLC systems and respond to faults
Participate in preventative maintenance and asset inspections
Support compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements
Contribute to audits, SOP updates, risk assessments and continuous improvement initiatives
Participate in project delivery and operational input
Be part of a rotating on-call roster responding to water and sewer emergencies
This role requires both independent initiative and strong teamwork within our Water Branch.
✅ Essential Requirements
Certificate III in Water Industry Operations (or willingness to obtain)
Experience in water and/or wastewater treatment plant operations
Knowledge of chemical handling and storage
Experience in water/wastewater sampling and testing
Knowledge of SCADA and telemetry systems
Understanding of maintenance management systems
Current Queensland ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
