We are seeking an Electrical Designer to deliver electrical design and documentation for industrial automation projects. You will produce high-quality drawings and schedules, support equipment selection (including VSDs), and work closely with internal stakeholders, electricians, and suppliers to keep projects moving from design through build and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

  • Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, termination details, and panel layouts for industrial control systems.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation including cable schedules, I/O lists, BOMs, drawing registers, and revision control.
  • Design and support LV control and instrumentation circuits (24 VDC), and contribute to projects involving HV interfaces (exposure to HV standards and practices is required; detailed HV engineering may be supported by senior engineers).
  • Select and integrate VSDs and related motor control equipment based on application requirements, protection needs, and site constraints.
  • Support technical procurement: prepare RFQs, evaluate supplier quotes, coordinate clarifications, place follow-ups on orders, and track delivery timelines.
  • Maintain strong supplier relationship management: liaise with vendors, resolve discrepancies, and ensure documentation and compliance information is complete.
  • Collaborate with electricians and panel builders to resolve design queries and improve buildability; support FAT/SAT preparation and site commissioning documentation.

Essential requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in industrial electrical design / control panel design (water, wastewater, mining, process, manufacturing or similar).
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks Electrical (2D/3D, project structure, reporting, cross-referencing) or equivalent electrical CAD.
  • Sound understanding of Australian documentation practices and relevant standards for industrial LV systems; working exposure to HV environments and safety expectations.
  • Demonstrated experience producing cable schedules, termination drawings, BOMs, and managing disciplined revision control.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across engineering, trades, clients, and suppliers.

Desirable (not required)

  • Experience with industrial networks (e.g., EtherNet/IP) and PLC I/O architecture.
  • Familiarity with vendor documentation packs, compliance requirements, and commissioning handover documentation.
