This senior leadership role is central to turning Council’s vision into meaningful outcomes for the Townsville community. Leading strategy, people and investment, you will shape how essential water, wastewater and resource recovery services are planned, funded and delivered to support a growing city.
Working closely with Councillors, executives, government and industry partners, you will drive sustainable growth, smart infrastructure decisions and innovative ways of working. Through strong leadership and financial management, you will build a high‑performing team focused on continuous improvement, community value and services that support liveability, resilience and long‑term prosperity.
This position is responsible for the direction and overseeing of the water, wastewater and resource recovery team, which provides asset management functions and engineering advice on water, wastewater and resource recovery infrastructure. The position will ensure that the integrated planning, concept development and design for renewal, upgrades and new projects along with any necessary reviews are carried out for either delivery or inclusion in the capital works plan. The position will also ensure that the team responds to community requests relating to water, wastewater and resource recovery issues, provides internal advice and updates/develops any relevant policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
You are a confident, collaborative leader with sound judgement and a practical approach to getting things done. You bring experience working across complex organisations, managing budgets, resources and priorities to deliver reliable services and positive outcomes for customers and the community.
Skilled at leading people, you communicate clearly, build trust and create a culture of accountability, performance and continuous improvement. You are comfortable working with senior leaders and stakeholders, influencing decisions and navigating change with integrity and professionalism. Supported by engineering qualifications and strong experience in water, wastewater and resource recovery management and planning, you apply clear thinking to both long‑term strategy and everyday decision‑making to support sustainable, well‑managed services.
