We are seeking a highly experienced Water Resources Engineer to join our Water team in Townsville, supporting major flood, hydraulic and water management projects across Northern Queensland, Australia and New Zealand.

This senior role is suited to an engineer with 12+ years’ experience in a consultancy environment, who can lead complex technical projects, mentor engineers, and partner closely with State, Local Government and Mining clients.

Based in Townsville, you’ll combine technically challenging work with a lifestyle offering access to the Great Barrier Reef, Magnetic Island and North Queensland’s outdoor lifestyle, while remaining fully connected to AECOM’s national and global networks.

Relocation within Australia or New Zealand is supported for the right candidate.

How you’ll make a difference

  • Lead and oversee flood studies, hydraulic design and water resources projects, acting as a senior technical authority.

  • Provide expert direction on hydrological and hydraulic modelling, ensuring best-practice, compliant outcomes.

  • Mentor and develop engineers and modellers within a consultancy environment.

  • Partner with State, Local Government and Mining clients, delivering trusted advice and high-quality outcomes.

  • Prepare and review high-quality technical and non-technical reports.

  • Support project delivery, resourcing, commercial performance and business development activities.

About You

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but we encourage applications from candidates who meet most of the criteria.

The qualities that help you thrive

  • Degree-qualified Water Resources or Civil Engineer with strong background in consultancy, or clear understanding of consulting delivery models.

  • Proven experience delivering flood studies, hydraulic design and mine water management projects.

  • Sound knowledge of Australian standards and experience working with State, Local Government and Mining clients.

  • Advanced experience with relevant software, such as; TUFLOW, URBS, WBMM, CP-RAFTS, GoldSim, GIS software.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, high-quality technical and client-facing reports.

  • RPEQ and/or CPEng (or eligibility) highly regarded.
