In Australia, SUEZ provides access to drinking water from various plants to over 14 million Australians, with a further 3.5 million Australians provided with wastewater treatment services. Our core services include Design & Build, Operations & Maintenance, Build Own Operate & Transfer (‘Boot”), & a range of partnership models.
We are looking to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel to play a critical leadership role in a high‑growth, fast‑paced environment where commercial judgement matters. This is a senior, hands‑on role for a pragmatic legal leader who thrives in complexity and enjoys shaping outcomes across major infrastructure projects. You will work closely with executive leadership, proposals, pre-contract and delivery teams, embedding yourself in the business to influence long‑term growth, strategy and project success.
Reporting to our General Counsel, you will provide commercially focused legal support across proposals, project delivery, procurement and corporate governance. You will work autonomously and directly with the business, trusted to balance risk and opportunity in real time.
The environment is dynamic, demanding and changeable. Success will require resilience, agility and the confidence to make sound decisions amidst competing priorities and evolving information.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide expert, timely, clear and solution-focused legal advice that supports both project and organisational outcomes while managing legal risk.
- Shape and execute legal strategy to drive optimal risk and commercial performance across PPP, D&C, EPC, O&M and Alliance frameworks.
- Oversee and lead negotiation of client contract positions, consortium/JV structures, MOUs and subcontract arrangements, ensuring alignment with project risk and delivery strategy.
- Provide day‑to‑day legal advice across delivery, operations and governance, engaging external counsel where appropriate.
About You
- 10+ PQE with strong front‑end experience in major infrastructure, projects or construction environments.
- Commercially astute and solutions‑focused, with a track record of delivering proactive, business-aligned legal services.
- Experience in designing and implementing legal practice improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency and workflow management, including use of legal technology and AI tools.
- Proven ability to influence outcomes in fast‑moving, high‑pressure settings.
- Confident decision-maker who balances legal risk with business realities.
- Highly adaptable, resilient and motivated by growth, challenge and complexity.
Why Join SUEZ
This is an opportunity to step into a true business‑embedded legal leadership role—where your judgement, adaptability and commercial insight will directly shape projects, partnerships and long‑term growth.
