Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Director – Hydrogeology to join our team. The ideal candidate will be based in Western Australia and bring specialist technical direction, advice, and capability in hydrogeology, combined with a very strong focus on client networks, business development and winning work.
You will bring years of experience of successfully collaborating across numerous and varied client markets including mining / petroleum, agriculture, the energy sector and government at all levels. You bring a rich history of professional connections in the water industry and a passion for continuing such developments, thriving doing so both independently and in team effort. Your reputation has been built on solid project delivery, and you will be capable of technically leading groundwater projects and opportunities across WA and APAC. Your role will be pivotal in developing our project pipeline through business development, client relationships, and winning work strategies, while ensuring quality delivery and mentoring team members to build technical capability.
You’ll be part of our Hydrogeology team, working alongside a diverse group of hydrogeologists, engineers and geoscientists. Our team provides specialist technical advice and delivers services across groundwater resource management, impact assessment, environmental protection, infrastructure development, energy and resources. You’ll also collaborate with our global hydrogeology network, contributing to projects across Australia, Asia Pacific and beyond.
Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Leading groundwater integrated inland waters impact assessments, closure planning and management including climate change forecasting as well as traditional hydrogeology scopes including groundwater resource identification, water supply investigations, dewatering and wastewater management.
- Proficiency in well design, aquifer assessments, water balance accounting and knowledge of surface and groundwater system modelling.
- Providing technical direction and management for high-quality project outcomes, collaborating with national and international multidisciplinary teams.
- Preparing, developing, and reviewing proposals and bids for projects, and delivering technical reporting and data analytics.
- Engaging with clients throughout pursuit, tendering, and delivery phases, ensuring project outcomes and client satisfaction.
- Astute project management and project directorship ensuring on time, on budget and quality delivery.
- Mentoring and training junior team members, sharing knowledge, and building team capability across GHD’s Hydrogeology Team.
What would you bring to the team?
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in hydrogeology, with at least 15 years of professional technical experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in industry-recognized software and programming tools (e.g., Aqtesolv, GoldSim, etc.).
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to explain complex processes to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage and lead complex projects, work independently as a technical lead, and collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams.
- A personal drive for excellence, commitment to mentoring others, and a flexible, proactive approach to challenges and deadlines.
