Sydney Water is looking for a Technology & Innovation Specialist to join our dynamic Research & Innovation team! This is an exciting opportunity to help identify, shape and enable innovation opportunities that support the long-term future of one of Australia's largest water utilities.
About the Role
As a Technology & Innovation Specialist, you will play a key role in helping Sydney Water identify and evaluate emerging technologies and innovation opportunities that can improve Sydney Water’s business performance, and customer outcomes. You will work closely with business stakeholders, external industry and supplier partners, to identify opportunities, shape and facilitate innovation initiatives for adoption of new ways of working. The role combines stakeholder engagement, technology and market scanning, and delivery activities to help turn business challenges into tangible business solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with business stakeholders to understand complex challenges and identify innovation opportunities aligned to Sydney Water’s strategic priorities.
- Explore, identify, and evaluate industry trends and cross-sector innovation opportunities with potential application to Sydney Water.
- Develop and deliver technology roadmaps, innovation frameworks, and strategic research and innovation initiatives.
- Lead cross-functional workshops and coordinate both internal and external innovation activities that support innovation, problem framing, and opportunity development
- Manage Sydney Water’s membership with professional bodies, research and innovation networks, and technology scanning services ensuring the business remains informed of emerging trends, leading practices, research insights, and innovation opportunities relevant to the water sector.
- Support the integration of research and innovation outcomes into business practices to ensure ongoing improvements and efficiencies across the business.
- Seek external funding via government grants and industry partnerships to support new initiatives.
About You
We are looking for a strategic and passionate professional who enjoys working at the intersection of business, technology and innovation, with the ability to translate their expertise into real-world challenges. You will bring:-
- Proven experience managing complex science and technology projects, ideally within the water industry or similar sectors.
- A degree in science, engineering or relevant field
- Technical expertise in innovation, technology, and applied science, with the ability to translate ideas into practical business outcomes and measurable results.
- Demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary projects and embedding technology and innovation outcomes into business-as-usual operations.
- Experience developing strategic roadmaps and delivering technology & innovation programs.
- Strong program and project management skills, particularly in innovation focused environment.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience working alongside universities, industry professionals, and government bodies.
- Knowledge of technology trends in the water industry, or a keen interest in how emerging technologies can drive progress in this field.
- The ability to work with diverse stakeholders and champion new ideas across the business.
