We're looking for a Laboratory Assistant to join our team and support the testing and analysis that helps ensure the safety and quality of essential water services across the Cairns region!

What You’ll Do:

As a Laboratory Assistant, you'll support the day-to-day operations of the laboratory by preparing samples, maintaining equipment, performing routine analyses and ensuring laboratory processes run smoothly and efficiently. As your skills and experience develop, you'll have opportunities to undertake more complex testing and broaden your technical capabilities.

You'll work closely with Laboratory Technical Officers and Scientific Officers, helping maintain quality systems, supporting laboratory operations and contributing to the delivery of accurate, timely and reliable analytical results. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, following procedures with precision and working as part of a collaborative team.

What We’re Looking For

• Certificate in Laboratory Techniques, relevant science qualification, or equivalent experience in a laboratory environment.

• Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and chemical handling, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately follow procedures and work instructions.

• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.

• Well-developed computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications and databases.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cooperatively within a team.

• Manual dexterity and practical skills required for laboratory-based activities.
