We’re looking for a Trade Waste Inspector to play a key role in protecting our wastewater infrastructure, supporting local businesses and helping safeguard the environment across the Cairns region!
What You’ll Do:
As the Trade Waste Inspector, you will coordinate and undertake trade waste inspections, compliance monitoring and enforcement activities throughout the Cairns region. You will work closely with businesses, industry representatives, regulators and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with legislative and Council requirements. You'll provide technical advice, assess trade waste applications and pre-treatment devices, investigate illegal discharges, and contribute to the continuous improvement of Council's Trade Waste Program.
What We’re Looking For:
• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Chemistry or a related discipline.
• Current Queensland C Class Driver Licence.
• Experience in trade waste management, wastewater systems, environmental compliance, or a similar field.
• The ability to interpret legislation, standards and technical requirements, and communicate them clearly to a variety of stakeholders.
• Knowledge of trade waste pre-treatment systems and their operation.
• Strong written communication skills, with experience preparing reports, correspondence and recommendations.
• Well-developed organisational, project management and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to provide technical advice and achieve compliance outcomes.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building abilities.
• A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and a commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
