Applications Close :9/9/26
AustCorp Executive has been retained by McBerns Pty Ltd to appoint an experienced Mechanical Design Draftsperson to join their established engineering and manufacturing team on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
This is an opportunity to do more than produce drawings.
At McBerns, you'll work across the complete lifecycle of products and projects – taking concepts and engineering requirements through 3D modelling, detailed design, fabrication, assembly and ultimately into real-world water and wastewater applications.
For an experienced mechanical designer looking to build a long-term career in the Australian water industry – or someone considering relocating to the Sunshine Coast – this is a fantastic opportunity to join a proudly Australian business with more than 35 years of industry experience.
About McBerns
Established in 1991, McBerns is an Australian engineering and manufacturing business servicing the water, wastewater and utilities sectors.
McBerns designs, manufactures and delivers specialist engineered products and solutions, supported by capabilities across engineering, fabrication, installation, asset management and project services.
Their products and systems include:
- Safety Access Covers
- Odour Control Systems
- Well Washer Systems
- Ventilation Poles
- Specialist mechanical and engineered products for water and wastewater applications
McBerns' strength is their ability to combine practical engineering with manufacturing knowledge to develop solutions that work in real-world environments.
For the design team, that means seeing your work go well beyond the computer screen.
The Opportunity:
Based at McBerns' brand new Kunda Park facility on the Sunshine Coast, you'll support both their existing product portfolio and the delivery of client and project-specific solutions.
Working primarily in Autodesk Inventor, you'll collaborate closely with engineering, project and workshop teams to turn technical requirements into practical, manufacturable designs.
Your role will include:
- Mechanical product and project design
- 3D modelling of parts and assemblies
- Detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings
- General arrangement, assembly and component drawings
- Modifying products for project and site requirements
- Developing designs from concepts, sketches and engineering direction
- Working directly with fabrication and workshop teams
- Resolving practical design and manufacturing challenges
- Maintaining accurate drawings, revisions and documentation
- Supporting projects through design, manufacture and delivery
Who We're Looking For
We're interested in speaking with mechanically minded designers and draftspersons who understand how things are actually made.
You'll ideally have strong experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D mechanical design software, combined with experience producing drawings used directly for fabrication or manufacture.
Experience across any of the following would be particularly valuable:
- Water or wastewater
- Pumps and pumping systems
- Process equipment
- Pipework
- Tanks or vessels
- Mechanical equipment
- Stainless steel or aluminium fabrication
- Structural steel or sheet metal
- Welding and machining
- Industrial or OEM manufacturing
You don't necessarily need to already work within the water industry.
Candidates coming from strong mechanical, fabrication, process equipment or manufacturing environments who want to bring that experience into the water sector are strongly encouraged to apply.
Why McBerns?
This is an opportunity to become part of an established Australian business with a long history in the water industry, while working in a position where you'll have genuine visibility over the finished product.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Work across varied products and projects
- See your designs manufactured and put into service
- Work directly with engineering, projects and fabrication
- Develop your knowledge of the water and wastewater sector
- Join an established Australian business operating since 1991
- Build a long-term career on the Sunshine Coast
For candidates currently based in Brisbane, interstate or elsewhere in Australia, this could also be the opportunity you've been looking for to make the move to the Sunshine Coast without compromising on the technical interest or progression of your career.
AustCorp Executive is managing this retained search exclusively on behalf of McBerns.
If you're passionate about mechanical design, enjoy seeing your ideas become real-world products and want to contribute to solutions supporting Australia's water and wastewater sector, we'd love to hear from you.
