Working with a high level of autonomy, the Principal Hydrologist provides senior hydrology leadership across eWater's products (Source, MUSIC and others), projects and capability development.

The position has five primary roles:

1. Lead complex hydrological and water system modelling and technical analysis.
2. Provide hydrology leadership for eWater's products, including functionality, maintenance, testing and improvement.
3. Translate user and business needs into clear hydrological concepts, requirements and technical specifications.
4. Lead or support projects, proposals, training and stakeholder engagement.
5. Mentor hydrologists and strengthen eWater's internal technical capability and knowledge.

About You:

We're looking for a highly experienced Principal Hydrologist with the proven ability to lead and mentor colleagues and industry peers.

Qualifications:

• A Degree in hydrology, water resources, civil/environmental engineering, environmental science or a closely related discipline. Postgraduate qualifications and/or equivalent work experience will be highly regarded

Knowledge:

• Strong knowledge of hydrology and water resources management
• Strong understanding of hydrological and water system modelling concepts and how they are represented in software
• Deep understanding of Australian water management arrangements, such as water policy, planning, allocation, accounting and river operations
• Minimum 10 years experience applying hydrological or water system models to real world problems

Experience:

• 5-year experience leading complex modelling or technical investigations and reviewing the work of others
• 7-year experience preparing high quality technical reports and communicating results to technical and non technical audiences
• Experience with eWater's products or a comparable river system modelling platform. Direct eWater Source experience will be highly regarded
• Advanced hydrological and river system modelling
• Model calibration, optimisation and interpretation of complex results

Personal Skills & Attributes:

• Strong conceptual thinking, analytical skills and problem solving
• Ability to define hydrological requirements, test expected behaviour and work effectively with software developers
• Strong technical writing and an ability to clearly communicate complex ideas
• Project leadership
• Ability to supervise technical contributions of team members and undertake peer review
• Effective communicator, able to support stakeholder engagement and client communications
• Eligible to work in Australia
• Ability to travel within Australia and internationally when required

Highly desirable:

•  GIS and spatial analysis is highly desirable
• Working knowledge of programming or scripting, such as Python, R or C#, sufficient to analyse data, automate workflows, investigate model behaviour and work effectively with software developers is highly desirable
