4T is a niche environmental and technical company that has been providing clients with reliable monitoring, data and advice for 30 years. We have a great team with extensive experience and we are in a growth phase.
We are looking for Environmental Field Officers to join us.
Full time or part time – our main task is to find the right person.
** Salary to be negotiated, and your home base can be within DI/DO distances to allocated projects. No need to relocate to Emerald if you already live in QLD. **
This position would be ideal for someone who wants to get a firm understanding on the practical aspects of environmental field work and to provide the successful candidate with career progression.
Tertiary qualifications are not necessary for this role. You will be doing a lot of training internally to learn the required skills. 4T may also provide support if you want to pursue formal qualifications in our field of work in future.
Why join us?
4T is a multi award-winning company, recognised for our purpose-driven work in natural resource management. In 2026, 4T won an International Gold Stevie Award for Environmental Services - against companies from around the world
We are a small team so you won’t be just a number.
We are making a difference. We are an environmental services company. We work to help our clients to work profitably with the least environmental disruption. We’re not here to just ‘do a job’.
We are family friendly. We know a lot of workplaces say that, but we really are. (Ask one of our current team).
We are driven by our values - that we have all agreed upon. We even have a “Culture Book” that describes what we believe, the contribution we make, how we work, and the values we follow.
We believe in continual skills and personal growth. Everyone is encouraged to keep learning, so further education is a part of the deal.
We believe that hard work and a bit of fun belong together.
What will you be doing?
In a nutshell, you will be in the field, collecting environmental samples and records - surface (dams, rivers) water and groundwater (bore water), drinking water, dust, soil, noise etc. Those samples may be sent to laboratories or specialists for additional analysis. You will also be responsible for recording data about those samples. 4T has well established and user-friendly computer systems to manage recording. Full training with assistance from team mentors is provided.
This list is not exhaustive, but these are the main things you will be doing:
- Conduct field tasks and record field observations in accordance with 4T procedures
- Operate and maintain field testing equipment to Australian and EPA Standards
- Communicate effectively with landholders, site managers, staff and stakeholders
- Secure and manage samples in accordance with 4T procedures and standards
- Organise work plans to achieve project goals and timelines in association with the Operations Manager
- Comply with any site specific standards for projects
- Carry out maintenance tasks on equipment
- Maintain computer records relating to field data
- Check data prepared by other senior staff members
- Support the other field team members in their work
- Leave work areas tidy after use
- Contribute to the achievement of the company’s mission and goals
- Contribute to the development of company Policies and Procedures
- Live our company culture
This is what we are looking for in our ideal team member:
- A desire to grow and learn
- Experience in extended outdoor work.
- We work on a lot of mine sites, so experience doing that will be handy.
- WHS Focus - Ability to recognise, manage and follow workplace health and safety directions.
- Fit for work and able to carry 25kg eskies.
- Practical engineering mindset will be very helpful.
- Ability to be mobile, as some projects will require overnight stays of up to a week.
- Computer skills:
- Basic Office 365 suite minimum
- Microsoft Operating System
- iPhones and iPads
- Database software principles (helpful, but not essential)
- Unrestricted working rights in Australia
