Who we are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, and our catchments. We care for water, life, and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet, or kayak down the Yarra we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

About the Role

We're looking for a creative, strategic communications and marketing professional to join our Engagement & External Affairs Group on a fixed-term basis. This is a varied role that combines strategy and delivery where you'll lead marketing, education and behaviour change campaigns from start to finish, and help deliver strategic communications initiatives to bring Melbourne Water’s brand to life.

Reporting to the Manager Communications, you'll work across three connected areas: marketing, brand and corporate communications. You'll use data and insights to plan, deliver and refine campaigns across paid and owned channels, create content that fits our brand and tell stories that connect with our audiences. Key responsibilities of the role include:

·         Plan and deliver evidence-based behaviour change, education and marketing campaigns across several channels, aimed at our key customer segments

·         Promote the Melbourne Water brand by working with an in-house creative studio to develop content telling our story in a consistent, engaging way across internal and external channels

·         Create – and uplift others to create – effective written content for digital and traditional channels including social media, video scripts, website, community engagement channels, marketing collateral, corporate publications etc.

·         Use data and insights to test what works, then refine campaigns to improve their impact

·         Build awareness of and engagement with our services and brand, testing audience impact regularly and acting on what you learn

·         Support high-priority programs, with effective communications and marketing approaches

·         Work with suppliers on advertising, media and content, and help colleagues across the business build their marketing and storytelling skills

·         Influence senior internal and external stakeholders to support our brand, marketing and reputation goals

For more information, please refer to the attached Role Mandate

Your marketing and campaign delivery expertise will complement the team’s strong communications capability and support impactful outcomes.

About you:

The successful candidate will be an experienced marketing and communications professional with a strong background in planning and delivering marketing, behaviour change or consumer education campaigns from concept through to execution. They will bring strong coordination, stakeholder engagement and project delivery skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.

·         Proven experience delivering marketing campaigns and corporate communications plans and content that support brand goals and build reputation

·         Excellent writing skills and a natural feel for voice, narrative and key messages

·         Strong project management skills for delivering across many channels in complex, time-sensitive settings

·         Critical thinking, so you can develop marketing and communications ideas and turn them into plans, tactics and content

·         Confidence leading and influencing senior stakeholders

·         The ability to find useful data, draw out insights and use them to improve results

·         Skill in helping others understand and apply marketing and communications principles

·         Commercial judgement developed in a complex organisation

·         The ability to manage competing deadlines and high workloads, both on your own and as part of a team

·         A qualification in marketing, communications or a related field
