Chemical Engineer

Chemical engineering is deeply embedded in the water industry.

Chemical engineering deals with the application of physical sciences (physics and chemistry) and life sciences (microbiology and biochemistry), together with applied mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and properly use chemicals, materials and energy.

One of the most critical processes chemical engineers help with is taking raw untreated, undrinkable water, and turning it into the safe clean tap water you find in your home. They're also responsible for making sure water that goes back into the environment isn't harmful.
Perfect for scientifically curious individuals who enjoy chemistry, process optimisation, and environmental protection. You’ll thrive in this career if you love problem-solving using data, are comfortable with detailed monitoring and lab work, and want to improve public health outcomes.

These engineers are systematic, logical thinkers with strong analytical skills and a safety-first mindset. You’ll need to be confident interpreting data, assessing chemical processes, and communicating technical information to operators and managers.

A passion for sustainability and innovation in resource recovery or circular economy initiatives is an advantage.
